Alphacool NexXxos XP water block

Cooling/Water Cooling by KeithSuppe @ 2004-11-12

We?re rapidly approaching the point where these HSF (Heat Sink Fan) combinations are simply too large and heavy to mount on our motherboards. Given the benefits of H20, it?s only a matter of time until most CPU?s are water-cooled. We take a closer look at Alphacool?s NexXxos XP water block. Can it keep an overclocked Prescott running cool at 4Ghz? Read on to find out

Alphacool's NexXxos XP is by far, one of the better blocks I've had the pleasure of testing. If allowed to keep the sample it will remain in my one of two reference systems, and if not I plan on purchasing it. I've been fortunate to have tested a selection of high-end water blocks representing the USA, and Europe. I tend to contact manufacturers whom build products I'm impressed with, as I'd be doing my readers a disservice by reviewing any, and everything sent my way. While my method may seem prejudicial, I'm seeking out what I believe to be the very best performers.

If you’re considering water cooling in the first place, I'd consider you an educated consumer and I wouldn't expect you to settle for any less. I pay close attention to manufacturers whom offer complete systems. You can learn a lot about a manufacturer by virtue of the components they choose for their kits. If the components chosen combine to form a synergistic, effective, and efficient cooling alternative, the manufacturer has done their job well. This is the type of experience which only comes in time. After all, who is better qualified then the water block maker in determining which components enhance the performance of their products. In the USA I find Danger Den to be very good at this, in Europe my money is on Alphacool, who will be offering their products here very soon. My next two reviews will introduce Alphacool's Xtreme Pro Set and then compare Socket-775 offerings from Danger Den (TDX) and Alphacool (NexXxos XP Bold)

The MSRP on the NexXxos XP is €49 or $62. The block (as with most of their models) is adaptable to just about every Socket, build quality and performance is exemplary. I have only two complaints. First I'd like to see Alphacool begin offering these block's in silver editions (although in all fairness, there a very small demand for such a costly medium), and secondly that they’re offered in the USA. The latter will be resolved soon, and 3DCool.com may be the first USA distributor, but this is not final yet.

I want to thank the staff at Alphacool for all their help.
