CoolJag 661C P4 & V558A XP Heatsink Reviews

Cooling/CPU Cooling by SidneyWong @ 2004-08-25

Today, we are looking into the two most commonly used coolers; 661C for socket 478 Pentium 4 and V558A for socket 462 AXP provided by CoolJag.

Conclusion

CoolJag currently is aiming at OEM market. The U.S. office in California started last April. I’ve yet to see any retail pricing and be glad to post them when they become available.

CoolJag 66IC P4 S-478

PRO
Good finish.
Easy mounting design.
Acceptable performance even when overclocked.

CON
What is the story in not making full contact on the CPU? They need to resolve this issue.
Where is the 80 mm fan? The 70mm fan turning @6,000 rpm is loud.
The 1,300 rpm min. speed provision is highly questionable in actual use.

(note- I turned down the fan to about 5,000 rpm using the fan controller; and the sound level becomes more acceptable with 3°C higher temp)

CoolJag V558A S-462

PRO
Decent base finish
Good performance
Acceptable noise level

CON
Where is the 80mm fan?

In closing:

I certainly would recommend the V558A for your next purchase; unfortunately I could not speak for the 66IC unless they revise the base design to accommodate all P4 boards on the market. I also like to thank Mr. Kenny Kwong to ship me the samples in less than 3 business days, and allow me the opportunity to test the products.

Update:

CoolJag informed us two days after we contacted them regarding the heatsink and CPU contact issue; the 66IC will be supplied with retention bracket that will work with the heatsink shortly afterward. This solution will work, however it will require the removal of motherboard. I’d prefer reworking the heatsink knowing that the labor cost could be higher than the bracket.
