Back to the basics - modding that dull grey Box with a twist

Modding/Case Mods by jmke @ 2004-10-05

See how an ugly dull box turns into one spectacular looking case, guest writer Antonio shows of his creation: sandblasted side panels, professional painting and near unbreakable windows are some of the excellent features of this "big black" casemod.

Inside the case & Sandblasting

First I needed to change where my PSU is sitting because it's no good idea to have it right hovering over your CPU. That blow hole in the front is way of compared to where I drilled my hole into the front bezel... time to change that also

Much better!

Let's see how it looks so far

Not too bad, but now it's time to work on the colour. Let's start of with some sand blasting! :-)

BEFORE

AFTER

Q: Tell us more about the whole Sandblasting deal, do you work at a place which offers these facilities?

Well I know some people that do work in a sand/glass-blasting company so kindly asked one of them to let me make use of their machines. After some days I finally got the "go ahead", so after closing time I put my case in their blasting machine/cabin. So always make good use of your friends and family!

Now let's pick a colour, any colour but grey to paint my case with ->

An Acryl Panel of 1mm thickness should be strong enough.

... , I needed a 1cm thick plate...
good info on how the paintjob was done and everything but little error in the review there

would not call it a review
but fixed the anomality, thanks for pointing it out, hope the layout & text is clear; took me quite some time to do everything.

Very nicely done.

No side panel fan, makes my day.

Don't get your point - that's a good hand held drill with over 12 volt battery pack. Of course, a drill press may be more impressive, but so are CNC, BMC machines which are unnecessary for the task at hand.

It was just a joke . I was referring to the fact that it was standing there w/o anybody holding it.
I know, my jokes suck
