Conclusion

The Mushkin Special series are without a doubt high performance memory sticks, they love high voltage (seen them soar up to 255Mhz using 3.5v DDR!) and run stable at the most aggressive timings. If you can find them at a competitive price, don’t hesitate.

Update:: I got my hands on an A64 setup, and with an OCZ DDR Booster was able to push DDR voltage up to 3.6V, this gave the following result with the Mushkin Special series:

But benchmarks have shown that they are not irreplaceable, the performance difference with memory which does not run at the same “tight” timings is far from earth shattering. In everyday usage you’ll be hard pushed to actually notice the difference. If you gain 2-5fps more in recent games you can praise yourself lucky.

Winbond BH-6 has potential if you are looking to squeeze every last bit of performance out of your setup, but unless you push the DDR voltage all the way up in the 3v+ region, you might as well buy the latest high performance sticks from popular brands.

Or take a look at Mushkin's own Black Hi Perf LII v2 sticks which seem to have been released not long ago. If you come across a review of those, or own a pair, let’s us know how they perform?

I would like to thank Tom for lending us these sticks for testing, they return to his shop, Factor where other Mushkin products can be found!
