AMD Athlon 64 heatsink roundup

Cooling/CPU Cooling by piotke @ 2004-01-18

Very few people have an AMD Athlon 64, but recently AMD introduced the A64 3000+ for a reasonable price. I couldn't resist and bought me one. Time to put some custom HSF units under some fresh A64 load!

The system was 100% stressed for at least half an hour. I used Artic Silver revision 3 as thermal paste. All pre-applied or added pastes were removed or not used.

Important to know, the ambient temperature in my room was 20° C and no case was used.

So, the three first coolers with almost the same design, perform alike. But are not super silent.

For a very silent setup, you should take the slk947U with a silent fan (Enermax 80 mm at lowest rpm for example). This is unhearable, and performs decently enough.

The slk947U with a delta 80 mm fan, matches the performance of the Asetek Waterchill, but the sound level has to be doubled to achieve that.

Overclocking

I left the Vcore to its default, being 1.5 V. And started upping the fsb. Also you could expect, the overclocking results are temperature related:

Noise levels

This is always a subjective opinion unless we can get our hands on a decibel-meter in the future, from silent to loud:

SLK948-U + enermax < Speeze < Evercool < Boxed < Asetek@7V < Asetek@12V < SLK948-U + Delta
