AMD XP Aircooling - Heatsink Roundup Q4 2003

Cooling/CPU Cooling by jmke @ 2004-01-07

We go for silent! The average AMD setup still sounds like a jet taking off. Swiftech, Thermalright and other heatsink manufacturers are trying their best to provide us with a silent solution to cool these hot potatoes. Do they succeed? And which one does it best?

Thermalright SLK947-U

Thermalright SLK947-U :

The latest SLK from Thermalright is an improvement over the SLK900, the base of the SLK947 is wider to accommodate the larger heat spreader of the P4, its performance for the AMD platform is slightly better then the SLK900. It uses an all copper design with thin fins and allows installation of 80 & 90mm fans.

The base of the heatsink is smooth and doesn't require additional lapping!

Installation :

The SLK947-U uses the 4 AMD mounting holes, thanks to the mounting bracket that is installed at the back of the motherboard you can be sure that the 4 standoffs won't come lose by accident. A very decent way to install your heatsink but you'll have to remove your motherboard!
