Arctic Cooling Arctic Sound P531 5.1 USB Headset Review

Audio/Others by stefan @ 2010-09-29

The Arctic Sound P531 is a 5.1 USB headset from Artic Cooling, very helpful in games which require 3D sound positioning, but also movies or sound files that have multi-channel sound content, and produces a very nice bass. The casing is built mostly from plastic, but does not give us a cheap feel and thanks to that it is very light. The software can even transform the stereo sound which we listen to the most into 5.1 so we can use the surround feature everywhere.

A Closer Look Part 1

A Closer Look

The 5.1 Arctic Sound Headset from Arctic Cooling has arrived with its external packaging a little beat up, thanks to the couriers that aren’t always very careful with the packages they are transporting. On the frontal part we can see how the actual product does look even without opening up the box, along with the remote on the wire and the USB connector; on the right side we can also see with which operating systems this headset is compatible:

On one of the package sides, we can see some of the main product features:

On the back, we can see more detailed product description in different languages, some photos that show us how we can move the headset parts or how to compact it for the product to take as less space as possible, but also a table with the full specifications:

After getting the product out of the external cardboard box, we can see that it is held fixed in a plastic mold, for extra protection, along with the remote on the wire:

In the box we can also find a CD which contains the drivers and some sound demos, along with an instruction manual:

The manual explains us the headset main components, but also how to install the drivers and how to operate the software interface:

The headset is themed black/metallic dark grey and it is not as heavy as the ROCCAT Kave I have tested in the past; this really helps because you can keep it on for many more hours and still fell very comfortable:

The cups are circumaural and are covered with a faux leather coat; some people may not feel comfortable in time when using the heatset for a long time, so Arctic Cooling has added an extra layer of soft cloth to provide extra comfort:

Each cup is labeled on its body, so we can know from the start how to wear them:

The height of the headband can be easily adjusted on our preference:

thought I recognized those audio config panels, have the same Xear3D chip on an older motherboard.
Comment from Stefan Mileschin @ 2010/10/06
Exactly, they have almost the same software interface and the same effects.
