NEXUS RX-1.1K Gold Power Supply Preview

Cases & PSU/Power Supplies by stefan @ 2010-07-25

The RX-1.1K Gold Power Supply is the latest from Nexus, comes with enough juice to power multiple GPU systems, but also high overclocked CPUs. It is not one of the most expensive on the market and comes with a carry pouch in which we can find the extra modular cables.

The Tests

Testbench:

CPU: Intel Core i7 920@4.0GHz 1.28VCore 1.20VTT
Motherboard: Asrock X58 Extreme with the latest 2.40 bios
Memory: 6GB G.Skill F3-12800CL8T-6GBPI
Video card: ATI RADEON HD 4870X2 OEM
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200.10
Case: Cooler Master HAF922 with stock cooling

To test the power supply in both IDLE and Full Load, I have used the OCCT 3.1.0 application, with its Power Supply stress test suite; before testing each power supply, I let the computer function in IDLE for about 30 minutes.

To measure the wattage drawn from the wall socket, I have used a Kill-a-Watt-like (Wattmeter) device:

The power drawn when the computer is off is not that high, but I would recommend switching the power supply off when not using the computer for a long time.
