Sabrent Rocket 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 Memory Kit Review

Memory by stefan @ 2022-06-01

The Rocket DDR5 4800MHz U-DIMM memory modules are Sabrent’s first attempt of products in this category and boy…they quite deliver! While not having a preloaded XMP profile, they come with the compatible JEDEC profiles, which each and every motherboard supporting the DDR5 standard should be able to work with it. In terms of performance, while they are marketed at 4800Mhz, they can be overclocked to impressive speeds of about 6000MHz, so a lot of free performance without spending extra money on a rated DDR5 kit with those same speeds!

Packaging, A Closer Look

Sabrent has been hard at work for releasing its new 16GB and 32GB memory modules from the DDR5 kind, which are great to be used in the latest Intel Alder Lake platforms. These supply quite a bit of bandwidth even at the 4800MHz operating speed, while requiring much less voltage of about 1.1V. At least with the Rocket series, Sabrent designers are not a fan of RGB-enabled modules but goes with the more professional look we have seen with their SSDs as well.

The 32GB kit we are going to review today is not packaged as a two-module SKU; Sabrent is selling these modules individually, each coming in a nice, sealed cardboard enclosure:

On the frontal part of the slim cardboard packaging, we will note a photo of the module, its operating frequency but also the capacity:

On the side, Sabrent notes that this kit was made especially for desktop computers:

On the back, we will find another photo of the module, along with the Rocket logo, the model code name but also its serial number:

After removing the top packaging layer, we will find inside another cardboard enclosure, which opens up like a small book:

The module is kept secure inside with foam material, but also some documentation is supplied as well:

The installation process is easily described inside the manual:

This is the first time we are seeing a heatsink construction of this type on a memory module; Sabrent has built thin pure copper foils almost as large as the whole module, which we have first seen on M.2 SSDs. These thin foils do help greatly with heat evacuation and manufacturers can also customize their outside layer with different prints; in this case, we have the Sabrent logo in the middle and more info on the sides:
