Patriot EP V30 A1 512GB microSD Flash Memory Card Review

Storage/Other by stefan @ 2021-09-07

The Patriot Memory EP V30 A1 card offers solid read/write performance and we were surprised that the write speeds obtained in our tests were higher that the ones declared by the manufacturer. Given the results, 4K video recording on action cameras such as GoPro Hero 9 Black will not encounter any issues and considering the fact that this type of activity takes a lot of storage space, we will always recommend going with the higher capacity SKUs.

Packaging, A Closer Look

The Patriot Memory EP V30 microSDXC series does comply with the A1 Application Performance Class, meaning that it can run/process applications quickly, by handling a minimum of random IOPS of 1500 and write IOPS of 500. These can be used along with Google’s Adoptable Storage feature in smartphones with not enough internal memory, making insufficient storage errors a thing of the past; the only quirk is that you need to have a SD Card slot in your tablet/smartphone!

The EP V30 A1 series comes with capacities of 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. Our sample is the one which offers the most storage space and was packaged in a simple cardboard/plastic enclosure; right from the frontal area of the packaging, we will note the main product features via logos, but also the fact that Patriot Memory has rating this particular product as taking part of their Extreme Performance series:

On the back, the manufacturer informs the user that the cards are compatible with devices taking SDXC/microSDXC formats and that the minimum sustained writes are rated to be around 30MB/s; we will also note the Patriot’s corporate office details, a list of compatible OSes, links to online resources and also the fact that the product incorporates a 3-year limited warranty:

In order to avoid damages during transit, the card along with its adapter is additionally held inside a transparent plastic mold:

It also comes with a Lock switch in order to avoid accidental data deletion:

On the back of the adapter, we will note the gold-plated contacts:

The EP 512GB card comes in a catchy red/black color scheme, while the writing is in white; even if the space is limited, Patriot has managed to fit in the list of supported standards, along with the total storage capacity:

An additional serial number is present on its back as well:
