Razer Ornata V2 Hybrid Mecha-Membrane Gaming Keyboard Review

Others/Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2021-02-08

The Razer hybrid mecha-membrane switches do offer an interesting combination between the feeling of clicky mechanical switches and the cushioned feel of regular office keyboard keys. If the users in your vicinity do not mind the noise, the keyboard can be well used for typing in the office and can be also thought as an entry-level keyboard for gaming purposes. The activation point is lower when compared to standard mechanical switches, while the low-profile keycaps do provide a nice overall experience.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Back in 2020, the Razer Ornata Chroma has received an upgrade with the Ornata V2, which now features dedicated multimedia keys in the top right area, a volume wheel, while the status LEDs have been migrated in the top area of the directional keys. We are seeing a return of the mecha-membrane switches, that combine the elements from the soft membrane switches and clicky mechanical ones. The hybrid switches are using a mechanical switch in order to press down a rubber dome, which actuates the input.

The keyboard is shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure, with the color scheme specific to Razer Chroma devices:

The main product highlights are shown on one of the box sides and here we will also learn that the keyboard packs a 2-year warranty:

On the opposite side we will learn of the keyboard dimensions, box contents, system requirements but also software requirements:

A large black sticker is applied on this side as well which shows the chosen keyboard layout but also the keyboard internal code name and serial number:
