Patriot Memory P200 512GB 2.5'' SSD Review

Storage/SSD by stefan @ 2019-10-05

The P200 drive from Patriot was built for mainstream computers in mind, without breaking any performance records, considering that it is built on the SATA III interface as well. Since we are dealing with a TLC NAND drive, we will observe drops in write performance after the SLC buffer has been filled up, but this will only happen if we do write very large files at once onto it. The SSD drives, especially the 2.5’’ form factors are really cheap nowadays and if 512GB is not enough for the current tasks, we can go ahead and choose either the 1TB or 2TB versions of the product.

Packaging, A Closer Look

Nowadays we are still seeing notebooks and laptops equipped with 2TB or less mechanical storage drives, that usually have high access times and less than ideal transfer rates. For people that would like to upgrade these systems, Patriot Memory is proposing their P200 2.5’’ SATA III 6Gb/s solution, that feature Trim Support, Global Wear Leveling and a 3-year warranty.

The 7mm drives are shipped inside a compact cardboard packaging, with a small window; Patriot rates these products as having “standard performance”:

On the back side of the box, we will be able to spot the product features in multiple languages, but also a small product description:

The inside layer does only contain a transparent packaging, along with the main product:

The casing of the drive is entirely made of aluminum and on its top area we will find a large sticker, highlighting the total capacity:

On the back of the drive, we will find a sticker with a similar size, but this one contains the internal code name of the product:

The sides do present the mounting holes, but the enclosure is not very easy to dismantle, for accessing the insides:
