Mad Catz R.A.T. 6+ Optical Gaming Mouse Review

Others/Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2019-01-03

R.A.T. 6 has been recently reincarnated into the R.A.T. 6+ and features a very similar chassis, but an upgraded optical sensor (Pixart PMW3360). The Thumb Barrel adds an extra analog control layer, while the back cover can be adjusted as necessary in order to permit different grip types. Let’s not forget about the weight system (3x6G weights are pre-installed), that can be removed easily and the aluminum chassis that reinforces the build.

Conclusive Thoughts

As the original, Mad Catz thought to include a standalone software for the R.A.T. 6+ and not an unified version as we have seen with Corsair, Cooler Master, SteelSeries and other peripheral manufacturers. The customization procedure is easy to understand and we can also create macros of our choice. The sensor did not show any tracking issues in our testing, an aspect that was to be expected considering that we have found it with other flagship mice in the past that have received awards.

Besides the Mad Catz unified software, we would also like to see a more complex RGB LED software setup in the near future, with even more presets and the possibility to link the effects with other compatible peripherals.

The R.A.T. 6+ can be currently found online for about 80 Euros, very close to the previous SteelSeries Rival 700 flagship that is currently available for about 75 Euros.
