Creative Sound BlasterX G6 7.1 HD Gaming DAC and External USB Sound Card Review

Audio/Others by stefan @ 2018-09-15

The latest Sound BlasterX G6 DAC and external sound card is very flexible in terms of supported platforms, but also features important upgrades over the G5. We do have now a future-proof 32-bit/384kHz, 130dB DAC that is combined with separate amplification for each channel, marketed as Xamp. The amplifier supports up to 600 ohm headphones and with the G6 we also have now Dolby Digital Decoding. Scout Mode was been introduced quite some time ago and applies certain filters in-game, for hearing more clearly footsteps, weapons and should give you an advantage. For easy operation, we do also have a hardware button for Scout Mode, but also for switching between different preset profiles or for choosing the amplification.

Packaging, A Closer Look

The Sound BlasterX G6 is the latest external sound card launched by Creative and besides enhancements regarding the sound quality, it is compatible now with a wide range of consoles. It is marketed as a 7.1 HD Gaming DAC and External USB Sound Card with Xamp Headphone Amplifier (yes, we know, a long name) and was built on the foundation of the previous G5. The product is shipped inside a familiar, small cardboard enclosure, with a photo on the main product on the top cover, but also some logos that highlight the main product features:

On one of the box sides, the manufacturer is showing the functionality differences via regular and Xamp headphone amplification:

A product side view is also shown on the lateral packaging:

Nearby, we will be shown the product SNs, but also the internal code numbers:

The product features are described in more detail on the back and these are joined by the package contents and minimum system requirements:

After unsealing the box and removing the top cover, we will get to see the Sound BlasterX G6 sitting secured inside a cushioned plastic mold:

Right under it we will get to see the included bundle:

The hardware accessories do include an USB cable for supplying power to the unit, but also an optical cable for use with X-Box and PS4 consoles:

Customers will also receive a Worldwide Warranty leaflet, a Declaration of Conformity on Radio Equipment leaflet, but also a Welcome Aboard message that redirects the user to different online resources:
