Shuttle XPC nano NS02A Android Fanless PC Review

Others/All-in-one PC by stefan @ 2017-05-29

The 0.5-litre NS02A fanless Android miniPC from Shuttle is able to perform wonderfully for its main intended tasks, which are digital signage and Thin Client applications. It is approved for 24/7 operation, does feature an operation temperature range between 0 and 40 degrees Celsius, while we have to thank the Rockchip RK3368 SoC for the very low power consumption. The Android 5.1.1 distribution is running on the box, which is well optimized and many unnecessary applications have been removed, including the Google Play frameworks.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

While in the past we were used to taking a look at miniPCs from Shuttle which were built upon an x86 architecture, this time we do have in our labs an ARM-based model, which does feature the NS02A code name. At its heart, the miniPC does come with a Rockchip RK3368 Octo-core Cortex-A53 64-bit SoC, which is paired with 2GB of DDR3L RAM (on-board), but also 16GB of eMMC as internal storage. This specific model is more oriented towards digital signage, thin client usage areas and less productivity applications, since it does run an optimized Android 5.1.1 Lollipop distribution.

The Shuttle NS02A XPC nano is shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure, which does feature the regular box art we have spotted with the same series before:

On one of the box sides, the manufacturer mentions of a compatibility option with 7.0mm ultra slim HDD/SSD; this applies only if you have also purchased the optional PHD5 (2.5’’ drive installation frame and cable):

The opposite side of the box does reveal the product technical specifications, but also the serial number:

After lifting the box top cover, we will reveal the main product along with its bundle:

The documentation is provided in multiple languages and besides mounting options, we will also get installation instructions for the optional 2.5’’ drive kit:

Adhesive rubber feet are also supplied in the same transparent, re-sealable plastic bag:

The supplied power adapter was manufactured by Asian Power Devices and is rated on the output as 12V at 2A:

Shuttle does offer the VESA mount as a part of the original packaging, together with mounting screws:

Besides the foam material we have found inside the box, the NS02A is further wrapped inside a transparent plastic bag:
