KFA2 GeForce GTX 1060 OC 6GB Video Card Review

Videocards/VGA Reviews by stefan @ 2016-10-03

The GTX 1060 OC video card from KFA2 features a very solid build, while the cooling system succeeds to keep the GPU at low temperatures on high loads. In DirectX11, the card does trade punches with the RX480 and wins most of the time! Surprisingly, in DirectX12 the RX480 from AMD gains a small advantage but considering the low number of DX12 titles nowadays, we think currently this card is a better buy.

KFA2 surprises us once again with the pricing of the reviewed model; the 6GB version of the GTX 1060 OC is available for just about 259 Euros -> this makes it clearly the cheapest dual-fan custom cooled card on the market, which is also pre-overclocked from the factory.

A Closer Look Part III

Versus the original OEM card, the GeForce GTX 1060 OC custom PCB from KFA2 has the GDDR5 and VRM placement switched and overall we are dealing with a longer PCB:

In the bottom left corner we will be able to spot the 4-pin connector which supplies power to both PWM fans:

The six GDDR5 memory ICs are manufactured by SAMSUNG and sport the K4G80325FB-HC25 product ID; these can be also found fitted on GTX 1070, RX 480 cards and more. These are specified to run at 2000MHz (8000MHz GDDR5 effective):

The VRM has a 3+1 layout, one for the memory and three for the GPU:

The PWM controller is an uP9509, from uPI Semiconductor Corp:

Some measuring points can be also spotted with this model:

The heatsink includes two heat-pipes which do help with heat evacuation; it has been a while since we have last seen direct heat-pipe contact design on a VGA cooler…:
