KFA2 GeForce GTX 1070 EX OC 8GB Video Card Review

Videocards/VGA Reviews by stefan @ 2016-09-20

The GeForce GTX 1070 EX OC board from KFA2 impressed us positively regarding the overall build quality, factory overclocking levels, while the dual 100mm fans keep the board cool while keeping minimum noise levels. The manufacturer has also thought of enthusiasts who like to keep their systems hardware visible during operation via case windows, so the fans along with the GeForce GTX logo are LED lighted; the logo can be further customized via the supplied Xtreme Tuner Plus utility. One other important aspect to point out is that the KFA GeForce GTX 1070 EX OC 8GB video card is one of the most affordable cards on the market with custom cooling, with the same GPU.

A SLI Finger helps us create multiple-card configurations:

As with most high-end cards, the whole back area of the PCB is covered with a sturdy backplate, which avoids bending; KFA2 was nice to also include measuring points for both GPU and memory on the right side:

By removing the four spring-loaded screws around the GPU, we can fully-remove the top cooling system (well, besides the small VRM heatsink):

KFA2 GeForce GTX 1070 EX OC is using Micron D9TCB memory chips; we have seen that other reviewers of this model have also spotted Samsung ICs:

This card is also equipped with five power phases for the GPU and two for the memory:

The GPU Power Controller is a new UPI uP9511P model:

The heatsink is pretty compact and with the help of large heatpipes the heat from GPU is easily expelled; between it and the memory ICs we can see thermal pads as interface:

Right after powering up the system, the card lights up a nice red LED on both GeForce GTX logo and also the fans:
