Thecus 2-bay N2810 4K NAS Review

Storage/NAS by stefan @ 2016-05-20

The N2810 SMB Tower NAS from Thecus packs the low-power Intel Celeron N3050 Dual Core CPU at its heart and is paired with 2GB of DDR3 RAM. Two LAN ports are available for failover or LAG configurations while the HDMI interface can display up to 4K output (30Hz) on our TV, with the possibility to playback 4K video in H264 format (since it is supported via hardware).

Conclusive Thoughts

The software has been revamped and now features a more pleasant desktop with additional features, which does not take a lot of time to load, even on this hardware configuration; the HDMI interface can be operated if the additional package is installed via ThecusOS 7 and besides the modules which are available to be run from the web interface, we can install additional applications which will be ran via HDMI like KODI, VLC and so on.

The performance while transferring files is good for this type of SoC and we can see a small hit when encryption is enabled.

As cons for this model we would like to enumerate that 2.5’’ drive screws are not included even if the holes are available for the trays, the fact that the RAM upgrade needs a complete motherboard removal instead of having the SO-DIMM slot on its back.

The product is currently available to be purchased online for about 304.9 Euros.
