Fnatic Gear Rush G1 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Others/Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2016-05-10

The Rush G1 keyboard has a simple and well-thought hardware design, incorporating the extra function keys in the standard layout and featuring Cherry MX switches with LED backlight. The included wrist rest can be installed optionally and adds extra value to the product; however….the current version of the software is not able to install the drivers by itself and requires extra steps to make this done. Without the drivers, the keyboard configuration console will refuse to function and pop up a message that we need to plug in the keyboard, even if it was previously connected to our PC!

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

The peripheral kit from Fnatic Gear could not have been completed without the keyboard, which sports the Rush G1 name. The product can be had with Cherry MX Red, Cherry MX Brown or Cherry MX Blue switches, which are widely known on the gaming and peripheral market as very reliable. The product is shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure sporting the Fnatic Gear color scheme:

The back side of the box does come with a short product description and on the right side we will be able to spot the main product features listed:

If we do remove the top box cover, we will be able to spot the main product surrounded by cardboard and protective foam, along with the documentation:

As accessories for the Rush we are going to receive the wrist rest and its mounting components:

The wrist rest does have a rubberized black matte plastic coating as we have seen on many other gaming mice:

Some small and circular rubber feet are present under the wrist rest, so it will stay steady on the surface we will use it on:

The manual will give us a quick look at the keyboard interface along with its custom functionality:

The Rush G1 keyboard is coming with a classic design, meaning that no extra programmable buttons are available on the sides or any other “bling” elements; simplicity is the key word for the Rush G1 and the manufacturer has included the extra needed functions in the Function keys area but also in the Numeric Pad zone; the bottom layer where the switches are fixed shares the color of the LEDs which are red. Our sample was fitted with Cherry MX Red which are widely known as having a good balance between gaming and writing activities. The keyboard is also provided with a 1.8m braided USB cable:
