Corsair VOID USB Dolby 7.1 Gaming Headset Review

Audio/Others by stefan @ 2016-01-07

In order to confirm the headset sound quality versus the VOID Wireless, we have run the same game assortment which contains Triad Wars, GTA V, The Crew, Carmageddon Reincarnation and AION; while the USB revision is not offering the same liberty of movement, we could experience the same high quality gaming-grade sound, thanks to the included 50mm neodymium drivers and good software support from CUE. The microphone quality is also top notch for its size as we have seen from performing several Skype conferences; one of the pluses we do see with this product is the fact that we do not need to care about the battery life anymore and can keep the lighting system always on, at maximum brightness.

A Closer Look Part II

On the interior of the cups we will find 50mm efficient neodymium drivers with a frequency response between 20Hz and 20kHz, the same model as with the Wireless variant; also the microfiber-wrapped memory foam ear pads make sure to stay comfortable even during longer gaming sessions. What is also to be appreciated is the fact that this material does not pick up lint as easy as with the previous reincarnations of the gaming-grade Corsair headsets:

The right headset cup does not feature extra controls but here we will be able to see the RGB component which is composed of multi-colored LEDs, which are covered by a non-removable black and shiny plastic surface:

For additional durability, we will find a metallic frame which links the cup to the headband:

When looking at the left cup we will remind ourselves again of the Wireless VOID model; here the ON/OFF button is missing, while the Mic Mute button has become larger:

The microphone body is quite flexible and is also fitted with the infoMIC features we did not see with the Stereo variant:

To be more exact, infoMIC is composed from a series of LEDs which signal us the current EQ setting, microphone mute status and the Dolby 7.1 feature:

The advanced volume controller can also act as an EQ setting selector:

Since this is a wired model, we will get to see a non-braided black cable coming out of the left cup:

The top headband padding is quite consistent and does also feature the same material we have seen on the interior of the ear cups:
