Toshiba 16GB TransMemory U401 USB 2.0 Flash Drive Review

Storage/Other by stefan @ 2016-01-04

While the Transmemory U401 has a more professional look and durable aluminum body, we were not too happy about its overall performance, especially the one involving writes. The product is falling behind the U201 and the low performance even for an USB 2.0 drive makes it unpleasant even when transferring a lot of small files.

Packaging, A Closer Look

The Transmemory U401 USB Flash Drive from Toshiba is aiming for the same usage pattern as the U201 model we have reviewed before and also the packaging model is very similar. The manufacturer allows us to take a look at the product without unsealing the cardboard enclosure:

On the back side we will learn of the total remaining space after the product has been formatted and also see the compatible operating systems:

Unlike the U201, U401 model does sport an aluminum chassis for enhanced durability; this one can be also easily attached to our keychain and on the top side the manufacturer has placed the size of the model (which is also available in 8GB and 32GB):

The opposite side lists the supported standards:

In the front we will be able to take a look at the USB 2.0 port:
