Mionix Castor Optical Gaming Mouse Review

Others/Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2015-09-12

Castor is one of the latest Mionix mice which integrates the PWM-3310 optical sensor for a DPI up to 10000 and a powerful 32-bit ARM processor which runs at 32MHz with 128Kb of built-in memory for recording macros but also for storing up to five profiles. After several hours of use during gaming (ZOMBI, Killing Floor 2, Cradle, Wolfenstein Old Blood, Guild Wars II) and office work, we have concluded that the mouse performs admirably and remains very comfortable thanks to its shape; versus ambidextrous mice which also have buttons on the right side, Castor has an area dedicated for resting your pinky finger so right-handers will be happy with it.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Mionix has recently asked us to take a look at their latest offer, the Castor mouse which features a revamped design, one of the latest available sensors and good material quality as the other models. The packaging design of the Castor is also more elaborated than the one we have found with the Naos and Avior models and is meant to use the inside space mode efficient:

The box is split in half with a black and white color design:

On the sides and also on the back side of the enclosure we will get to see many of the product features listed:

On the top we will be also able to spot a handle for easier manipulation:

We will find Castor sitting between two pieces of white molded cardboard, while in center the company CEO congratulates us for the decision:

Mionix also offers us a set of stickers, but also a Quick Start Guide:

Some details like Installation procedure, Customization, Warranty, Support and more is discussed here:

Castor is smaller than the previous models (122.46 x 70.42 x 40.16 mm) and was made in such was so it would accommodate all grip types; however, we would not recommend it to people with large hands; the main area is covered by four layers of rubber coating which ensures maximum grip, a nice feel but we also know that rubber often pick up skin oils and frequently used areas will show this after some usage time:
