Noctua NH-D15 CPU Tower Air Cooler Review

Cooling/CPU Cooling by leeghoofd @ 2015-01-27

Austrian company NOCTUA, known for their silent yet efficient processor coolers, released last year their behemoth NH-D15 cooler. The successor of their successful NH-D14 had to have even more performance while keeping the noise level still comfortable for day to day living room operations. This cooler is designed to handle the heat output of the latest hexa and octa-core crunching processors without breaking a sweat, thus for people who don't overclock or for those that don't run high wattage setups this cooler is pure overkill. Time to pop the package and see what Noctua has in store for us with their flagship NH-D15 tower CPU cooler.

SecuFirm2 Mounting

Thanks to the SecuFirm2 the end-user will always have a perfect pressurized mount enabling optimum contact between the NH-D15 cooling base and the processor's heat spreader. The Noctua NH-D15 is out of the box compatible with the following modern sockets:

Intel:

  • LGA 1150/1155 & LGA1156 (via included backplate)
  • LGA2011 & LGA 2011-v3
  • LGA775 & 1366 via optional NM-I3 mounting kit

Installation is pretty straight forward. Install the included backplate, position the spacers, secure the mounting plates and screw down the cooler.

Easy and fast install too on LGA 2011, just insert the bolts, position the mounting brackets and secure them with the four thumb screws. Position the N-D15 cooler and secure firmly.

AMD:

  • AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1, FM2 & FM2+ (requiring original backplate for installation)

The AMD install requires the original backplate, position the four white spacers and then screw the brackets down via the long screws.
