Crucial MX100 256GB Solid State Drive Review

Storage/SSD by stefan @ 2014-08-21

The Crucial MX100 SSD we are reviewing today offers plenty of performance and is bundled with the Acronis True Image HD for easy cloning when transferring data from an older SSD or mechanical drive. The product comes in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB flavors and is very affordable.

Conclusive Thoughts

The Crucial MX100 is available in three different variants: 128GB, 256GB and 512GB and is set to replace the previous M500 by using newer NAND on a lower lithography (Micron 16nm ONFi NAND). The read performance is very good but on the writes side it is beaten by some SSDs we have tested in the past. We surely expect the level of performance to modify even further as the time passes since Crucial usually updates the drive firmware many times after the products have been launched, so no need to worry about that.

Indeed, prices have dropped significantly and now the 256GB is the sweet spot for many models; the Crucial MX100 is one of the cheapest we have seen so far, being available for about 91.8 Euros. This is excellent since we can use the rest of the money for investing in another system component when buying a new PC or we can simply buy two of these and run them in a RAID configuration.
