With the R9 280 GPU (rebadged Radeon HD 7970), HIS have released a new card which features the proven 5-heatpipe two-slot cooling system; the product comes with a mild overclock but retains a very good overclocking potential, being able to reach and even surpass cards based on the 7970 GHz Edition. The card can handle most games at Full-HD resolutions, with or without filtering, while at 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 we may often need to adjust the detail levels.

A Closer Look Contd.

With the new cards, HIS has decided to change the color of the top aluminum shroud from black to gold:

 

 

 

The two 89mm Dual Axial Fans keep the card cool by blowing air onto the large heatsink:

 

 

 

The lateral views are showing a combination of 2x8mm and 3x6mm heatpipes, which travel from the GPU plate up to the heatsink fins:

 

 

 

 

On the back side of the card we will find multiple stickers along with the GPU backplate:

 

 

 

The card presents itself with two CrossFire fingers and one BIOS switch:

 

 

 

In order to power-up this card we also need one 8-pin and one 6-pin PCI-Express connectors handy:

 

 

 

As outputs, we have available one DVI connector, but also one HDMI and two mini-DisplayPort:
