iOCEAN X8 octa-core Smartphone Review

Mobile/Smart Phones by stefan @ 2014-06-13

With the 5.7’’ X8 model, iOCEAN has chosen to go with a much more professional look by using a combination of metallic alloy and Gorilla Glass III for the front and thicker Asahi Glass for the back. We are still dealing with a dual-sim model thanks to the specially designed tray (which can fit both micro-SIM and nano-SIM), 32GB of internal memory but no microSDHC card slot has been fitted this time.

A Closer Look Part II

On the right side of the phone we will get to find both volume rocker and also the power On/Off/Standby buttons. During the first week of use we found out that the close placement of the two made us press the On/Off button accidentally, when trying to work with the volume controls:

In order to have very good durability, iOCEAN went with Stainless Steel buttons this time instead of plastic:

On the top side of the X8 we will only get to see the audio jack:

The left and right sides are quite similar and remind us of the iPhone 4/4S; the left side however holds the SIM card reader with a removable tray:

iOCEAN has designed the tray to be symmetrical on the outside so it is really easy to mount it on the wrong side, so this would cause irreparable damage to the internal components:

Speaking of the potential damage if the user is not paying enough attention, the manufacturer has also placed additional warnings on the back side protective screen:

On the back side, surprise! The X8 no longer has a plastic back as with the older models, but Asahi Glass (and not Gorilla as other reviews are mentioned). This type of glass is a little bit thicker (0.33mm) but still built to sustain shocks without breaking:

The camera has a 2.2 aperture with an OmniVision OV13850 high-performance 13.2 MP sensor. A single LED flash assists the camera during low light conditions:

In the middle, we can locate a large iOCEAN logo:

Further down, we will get to see more inscriptions, which seems that not all people enjoy and would have been happier with them missing or if they would have been placed in a more discrete location, with a smaller font size:

Let’s go back a little to the SIM slot; after inserting the pin into the designated hole, we will practically activate a small metallic foot which will press against the tray and would release it; here you will get to see the tray which has the metallic component ejected:
