Corsair Carbide AIR 540 Computer Case Review

Cases & PSU/Cases by leeghoofd @ 2013-07-11

During COMPUTEX 2013 CORSAIR introduced a few new enclosures, the Carbide 330R and the 540 AIR version. While the first is more a refinement of exiting designs, the new 540 AIR sports a revolutionary design for mass production cases. The concept behind this case is that the case is divided in two halves. One side houses the mainboard, graphics card and cooling devices. The second compartment leaves room for  HDD/SSDs, optical drives and the power supply. Thus the airflow is maximized for the hotter running components of your favourite hardware. The big custom made cube cases, in particular the UFO series from Mountain Mods are the foundation for these particular multi-compartment designs. However CORSAIR seems to have pulled it off to bring this design to the masses at a fraction of the cost.

Some extractions of the CORSAIR PR message:

Direct Airflow Path™ cooling for revolutionary performance.

The unconventional design of Carbide Series Air 540 utilizes dual chambers to deliver cooler air to your CPU, graphics cards, motherboard, and memory without your drives or power supply getting in the way. The included custom Air Series AF140L intake and exhaust fans provide great airflow performance at lower noise levels than typical case fans. And, you can mount up to six 120mm or five 140mm fans, with 280mm top radiator support and room for a 360mm radiator on the front panel.

Like all Corsair cases, Carbide Series Air 540 is designed for fast, neat, and satisfying builds. The tinted, oversized flush-mount side window lets you show off your work.

Outstanding Cooling

Our Direct Airflow Path™ design utilizes dual chambers to deliver cooler air to your CPU, graphics cards, motherboard, memory, and other PCI-E components without your drives or power supply getting in the way. Quieter Operation. Carbide Series Air 540 includes 140mm Corsair Air Series AF140L intake and exhaust fans. The AF140L is based on the award-winning AF140 and provides great airflow performance at lower noise levels than typical case fans. The easy access, low-restriction dust filters are easy to maintain.

Unpacking:

Typical brown, no frills box packaging, however the case is now neatly wrapped in a solid black vinyl bag, thus avoiding any risk of scratches during transportation.

At first glance the Carbide 540 AIR case looks like two cases welded together. The windowed side panel allows you to show off your build and cable management to the world. The massive cutouts already unveil some of the massive ventilation potential.
