Software Config, Testing and Conclusive Thoughts

In order to properly use the G600 mouse you do need to install the Logitech Gaming Software suite, it will auto-detect the mouse and offer you to configure profiles stored on the mouse or the ones installed on your PC. Choosing the profiles stored on your PC has the benefit of them being linked to games executable, as they are enabled on game launch.

I tested the G600 with The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, not an MMO, but still an RPG which can benefit from extra buttons on the mouse. In order to not having to memorize all the button mappings, there's a quick print option which generates a handy cheat sheet! In combination with the G-Shift button you can have more than 24 actions mapped on the mouse, insane!

The next tab enables advanced tuning of the DPI and USB polling rate; the last tab gives you control over the LED lightening for the keypad. As shown in the movie on the previous page, there are tons of colors to choose from and lightening effects to make it more dynamic. The lightening helps findings the keys in the dark, and the colors can help you identify the profile the mouse is set to.

Testing

The G600 was tested with a variety of games, but it's clear this mouse is best suited for strategy and MMO games where twitch-actions are not a crucial part. The ergonomic features make this mouse a pleasure to work with for extended periods of time, the keypad does take a bit to get used to, but the inclination of the keys helps a lot to find them blindly. The tracking of the mouse pointer is true and the large mouse pads guaranteed a smooth gliding experience. The braided cable is of high quality and never became entangled.

Overall I have to be honest and say this mouse is not my personal perference, this has mainly to do with the intended game genres not being my favorites. For office use the lack of the classic forward<>back thumbs buttons is very noticeable, and while in the end I got used to using two buttons at the site, they are smaller and not as easy to hit.

Conclusive Thoughts

With the G600 Logitech made a novelty product which incorporates a 20 button keyboard into an ergonomically designed gaming mouse. While the design and executing of the idea is of high level and perfection, the omission of some general purpose thumbs buttons limits the general day to day usage. For MMO games and other genres which require a truckload of mappable actions, I do see the G600 excell with more than 24 actions available at your thumb-tip.

At €50 this niche product comes with a luxury price, while still remaining affordable for those enthusiast who want to up their (MMO) game. For those gamers the mouse comes recommended. If however MMO/RPG/RTS genres don't tickle your fancy, the G600 mouse will not be your best gaming partner.
