The new Ballistix Tactical memory kits from Crucial are also available in Low Profile format, which means that they have lower height for permitting a better clearance in systems which require it and also operate at a lower voltage (1.35V).

Packaging, A Closer Look

In the past we had quite a few clearance problems when installing large CPU coolers and willing to mount the RAM modules into the slots; to solve the problem completely, or at least partially, we had to either lift up a bit the cooling fan on the side of the RAM modules or uninstall the CPU cooler completely, install the RAM modules and then put the cooler back. Also, on the market there are lots of mini-ITX systems with enclosures that do not have a lot of space for moving around stuff. Crucial have tried to solve this problem by introducing Low Profile memory modules and the ones we will review in this article take part from their Ballistix Tactical line. The packaging of the modules is really simple and is made of transparent plastic. Right from the start we can see how the RAM sticks do look like:

On the front sticker we can find more details regarding the product:

The back side of the packaging introduces us to the types of Ballistix RAM (Sport, Tactical, Elite):

The Tactical sticks come with a simple but elegant heatsink and the color scheme is classic:

The same theme can be observed on the other side, but this time with some stickers:

One of the stickers we have mentioned features the product code name, rated speed and timings, along with the voltage:

Here is a shot taken from the upper side of the RAM sticks; we can see how the manufacturer has placed thermal tape between the RAM chips and the metallic sinks:

The next photo illustrates the difference in height between a regular-sized module and the LP Ballistix Tactical:
