The DS413 NAS from Synology is aimed for the Home to Business Workgroup segment, provides good read/write speeds in most of the applications and features the highly configurable DSM. DSM supports plenty of additional services, accessible from the GUI, like DHCP, VPN, Syslog, Mail, Antivirus, Backup, Cloud Station and more.

A Closer Look Part II

The DS413 NAS chassis is further wrapped inside a foam material bag:

 

 

 

The DS413 shares a quite identical body shape with the DS412+ we have looked upon some time ago; on the back and laterals we'll find rough black plastic and in the front the unit welcomes us with a shiny black plastic removable cover, activity LEDs and buttons:

 

 

 

Here is a closer look on the frontal side of the NAS:

 

 

 

The bottom right side holds one USB 2.0 port, along with the power button and LED:

 

 

 

Further up, we will see the HDD activity LEDs, along with the Status LED:

 

 

 

On the bottom left side of the plastic cover, we'll find the product code name:

 

 

 

On both sides of the NAS we'll find the Synology Logo, which also acts as a ventilation grill:

 

 

 

 

On the back side of the enclosure, we will find two low-noise 92mm fans with fan guards, the extra ports and a sticker:

 

 

 

From left to right, we can see the DC-IN port, a single LAN port, one eSATA port, two USB 3.0 and a Kensington lock. Near the LAN port there is also a small RESET button:
