Tokyoflash Kisai Seven Limited Edition Watch Review

Others/Miscelleneous by stefan @ 2011-11-21

Tokyoflash has surprised us with another unique watch which became a reality, built after a concept submitted at the Tokyoflash Design Studio Blog, by Scott Galloway and was inspired by one of its favorite movies, TRON. The central display resembles an "Identity Disk" and can be animated in three different modes. The battery inside can be recharged via USB and it can last up to one month on one charge, if the animation modes are not selected.

Conclusive Thoughts

One more feature that is worth describing is the animation mode; the watch comes with 3 types of animations we can set, which differ by the time when the LEDs light up. If the first type of animation is selected, the display will pulse continuously; the second type of animation makes the display to show up each 30 seconds and the third type makes the display pulse every 5 minutes.

Here are two examples, one for the first animation mode and one for the second:

Animation 1

Animation 2

The watch comes with a PL402525 rechargeable battery by USB, which can last up to one month after a full charge (which takes about 3 hours); the one month time is estimated if the animation feature is turned off. Tokyoflash lets us know that the battery drains much quickly when we set the continuous light-up mode (Animation 1), but it is a great feature to have active when we want to show off in places like clubs or bars.

The watch comes unfortunately with a strap which can be resized once; we must be very careful during the operation so we won't cut too much from it and if we are not 100% sure we can do this, it's better to go to a specialized watch shop. The charging port is covered with a very small screw, which can be lost easy if we are not too careful (Tokyoflash were nice and included an extra in the package.

Kisai Seven was built in limited quantities and at the time of the writing it was already sold out; during its availability, it could have been bought for about $139. Some blogs made the mistake by advising users to wait a little more and not to buy right away, because it may drop in price; this did not happen though and the Kisai Seven became unavailable after a short period of time.

UPDATE: The watch is again on sale at the Tokyoflash online store which can be accessed right here !
