Coolermaster Storm Enforcer gaming case

Cases & PSU/Cases by leeghoofd @ 2011-07-05

When we visited Coolermaster Labs early this year we had some ideas how the new Enforcer was taking form. We also saw then some pre avalaution models of the now released Cosmos case. At Cebit 2011 Marco (CM's marketing guy for the Storm line up) was eager to show off their latest creation to us. It had some pretty good features that could please any gamer out there. Though we we had ( as usual ) some criticism on some concept ideas. Though with the final products arriving at the Madshrimps lab we can see if Coolermaster created the ultimate game case yes or no.

Conclusion

Well to be honest I was quite sceptical as I as was already overwhelmed by the great design and features integrated in the other Coolermaster case we tested, the CM 690 II Advanced. Though the CM Storm guys have outdone themselves. Keeping the price as low as possible, by leaving out features alike docking stations, an abundance of multi LED coloured fans, no fan controllers included, etc...

This Enforcer case is a monster in cooling. Everything is optimised for maximum airflow. The big 200mm fan provides some serious cooling for your hard drives and the chipsets on your motherboard. Even when the removable Hard drive tray is pretty stuffed with Terrabytes of home entertainment, then still  the front airflow is present to make a difference. Your hardware will thank you for that extra breath of fresh air during hours of gaming.

The front USB3.0 connection, not going via the motherboards backplat,e but straight to the motherboard is a nice feature for those that own a motherboard with the appropriate onboard connector. Our older test AMD 890FX based motherboard however doesn't support it.  So the two front panel 3.0 connectors are left unused. Modern boards (read 2011 series and later) support the Enforcer type solution. No more routing via the rear, just hook it straight up. But if you still own an older board and want to use the front panel USB3.0 solution, you might have to think it over...

Very long GPUs are supported, if you can live with sacrificing the removable HD tray. Still being able to mount 3 x 3.5" HDD's and 2 SSD's should be plenty for most. Though if you are a storage hog, plz check the dimensions beforehand.

For the Storm Guard feature, well it's nice to avoid the quick loss of USB controllers, keyboards or mice (by theft ofcourse). But it might remain unused on a lot of builds. Eg before you leave the LAN party : you have to dismount everything again before going home. But the choice is yours to install it yes or no.

Pros :

  • Great cooling performance, yet very quiet.
  • Versatile storage capacity.
  • Excellent build quality.
  • Gamers love windows.

Cons :

  • USB3.0 connector on older boards is useless.

To wrap it up, for 75 euros you get a super versatile case. Having close to optimum cooling, loads of room for storage and for those that love it : a preinstalled windows to show of your hardware to friend or foe. The price for that complete package is really a steal. And I'm prolly gonna build a lot of these cases in the future. The value is excellent : excellent build quality ( a coolermaster tradition ) and  without too much bells and whistles. Just all the things you really require as a gamer are included ! This case is a must buy for those that can live with it's looks and the gossip that you are using a very affordable case iso a superexpensive Lian Li case lol.

I wish to thank Marco from Coolermaster Storm department for the Storm Enforcer review sample.

Rogier from Asus Nl for the motherboards

Gareth Ogden from Corsair for the SSD and RAM support
