Mad Catz Cyborg V.5 Rumble Pad Review

The Cyborg V.5 Rumble Pad from Mad Catz is a product to consider if you’re looking for a controller which we can be used on both PC and our Xbox 360 console; it also brings an unique feature: the Cyborg module which allows you to swap the d-pad and thumbstick between Xbox 360 and PS3 mode.

Conclusive Thoughts

As stated before, the Rumble Pad works perfectly even before installing the Saitek drivers and software (including the vibration function) so it's really plug and play!

To test out the product, I ran Need for Speed: Shift, enabled pad control instead of keyboard and started up a race; using the controller feels much better than racing with the keyboard and I could feel vibrations in the pad of different intensities when hitting other cars, going “offroad” or when crashing into a wall.

Another game I have tested is WRC FIA World Rally Championship, but the one I liked best was Dirt 2, where you can feel the vibrations at every bump.

Finally, I have tried Mafia 2, which also has a very nice vibration system implemented (depending with which weapon you shoot, you will get a different response from the controller); games like Mafia 2 and Saboteur need a little more time to get used to when aiming, compared with a PC mouse.

Having Xbox360 compatibility is a huge plus, because most of the games I have tested already have very good profiles preloaded into them, so we just have to switch in the game settings the controls from keyboard/mouse to pad, and off we go!

The product can be found in online stores for about34.99.

I would like to thank again to Mad Catz for making this review possible!

I would not use a gaming pad for racing games if I have a choice, either keyboard for arcade racers, or steering wheel for sims;

Mafia 2 for driving sequences may be ok, same goes for GTA4 most likely; as the PC controls for that game are a bit screwed up (same as with GTA San Andreas);

real strength imho of a console-like controller for PC is for sports game like Fifa, Basket Ball, Hockey etc, there you definitely will come out on top by using a controller vs keyboard.
