DDR modification work area(click image for zoom)
(click image for zoom)To start the modification we show the chip that controls the DDR voltage. The chip that controls voltage to the DDR is the ISL6522. Now instead of soldering directly to the voltage regulator IC again I use an alternative point that is IMO a lot easier to work with.
Here we see I used a mounting area where I can lay the VR (variable resistor) down in a spot where I can use a ground point on the card for the back leg of the VR so only one actual wire has to be used thus making things a lot more simple and at the same time making less overall clutter and safer for handing and so on..
So now we have our spots to hook up the voltage mod we solder everything up making first to set the 10k variable resistor to maximum resistance or 10,000 ohms to start. this should be done with a multi-meter if you have not had experience before with a variable resistor and no how to set it without a meter, but you should have a meter handy as to set the core voltage later you must have a meter on hand.
Here we see the resistor hooked up to the card and it shows you what spot you will need to use your multi-meter to read the voltage from the card once the system is turned on. As an alternate you can solder a wire to this spot so you can measure the voltage without probing at the card with power on if you don’t have steady hands.
