Mounting a Prometia or Vapochill on AMD A64/FX51

Howto by MajorSlaughter @ 2003-10-11

In due time CPU kits will be offered from both nVentiv and Asetek for the the AMD A64/FX51 motherboards.
But for those of us that donĀ“t want to wait, we must improvise! This guide will show how I mounted my Prometeia/nVentiv cooling system onto my Athlon 64 setup.

Alternative Method + R9800

Alternative Method

** Alternative to using plexi glass would be to use the extra back plate that came with your CPU as a hold down for the Prommy. It requires cutting an opening for the vacuum hose in the bracket and drilling out the treaded openings.

Thanks go out to Boogotop at Xtreme forums for this picture

Radeon 9800 Pro + VapoChill

Here is a similar design that I made for the VapoChill to mount on Radeon video cards. I used a back plate to distribute pressure with 1/4" closed cell foam sandwiched between it and the card to prevent condensation. The Prommy head seals on the front of the Radeon if you leave the spacer around the core in place.

I think it is a backplate for mounting your heatsink , this is how it looks to me, and MJ also posted it

Yes, its just a back plate for the heat sink mounting bracket to reduce flex and distribute pressure more evenly. It's part of the AMD socket 940/754 design specifications.

I'm at 26k right now, need a new bios from Asus to let get get my fsb over 260mhz ! stuck ya know

All the ram I have won't work right on A64 at 1:1 either, which will be ok once they fix the fsb limitation anyway.
