CONCLUSION:

A few remarks about this li'l project of mine. To begin with, the type of fan I used. I haven't tried this method on any other fan. Simply because it isn't useful to me, since I'm using a rheobus. It should work on any fan (doesn't matter what type or brand) - as long as it has the necessary connection points.

Next, the method. In theorie, it is perfectly possible to only use the RPM monitoring wire on the mobo and still hook the fan up to a rheo- or baybus. Only remark : your motherboard has to support this. While testing on a MSI KT266 mainboard (long time ago ;) ), it didn't work that way because the connector on the mobo seemed to need the voltage before it gave a readout on the RPM. So it shall depend on the type of mainboard you're using.
