Swiftech QPower Howto/Review

Cooling/Water Cooling by jmke @ 2002-05-14

A few weeks ago I received a box from Comtechnology. Curious as I am I just had to look inside :). I found a neat all-in-one watercooling system from Swiftech. Here you can read how I got it working and what I think of it!

Installing the System

Inserting the Hardware:

My testsystem was an Epox 8KHA+ in combination with a XP1600+ (unlocked). Previously it was cooled by a very loud air-cooling solution. Using an Alpha PAL8045 and Black Delta fan (50cfm) in an Aopen HQ45 case that was fitted with 2 high performance 90mm Papst fans. To say this system was just loud, is like saying mardi grass is just a small party.

My old cooling solution, big and noisy

The Waterblock:

The QPower comes equipped with a Swiftech 462 waterblock, suitable for both AMD and Intel processors. It is considerably big, but If you are able to fit an Alpha 8045, no problems will arise.

Swiftech 462, an Intel and AMD waterblock at the same time!

The Inside picture above, notice the funky layout on the "coldplate", increasing the heat transfer to the water by increasing friction.

The bottomside, shiny as hell!

Now let get this thing installed on the motherboard

it uses the same system as my Alpha 8045

springs, yep same thing

looks the same , maybe a bit rounder :)

there you have it, installed onto the mainboard. Just for looks it scores already quite high!

The QPower can also be used in dualcpu setup as shown here:

Finally we have arrived at the most interesting part: testing...
