Corsair DDR4 16GB Vengeance LPX 2800C16 Memory Kit Review

Memory by leeghoofd @ 2014-11-18 read/post comments(0)

DDR4 has finally hit the big masses with the release of Intel's high end X99 platform aka Haswell-E. Besides the massive available bandwidth these DDR4 modules can also pack a far higher density per stick. All this goodness is available at your disposal while requiring a mere 1.2Volts. Only drawback, as per each technology at launch is the high retail price. Today we have a look at CORSAIR's mainstream kit: the Vengeance LPX series, however mainstream doesn't necessarily imply low speeds. The kit we are reviewing today runs out of the box at 2800MHz; not uber high end speeds though more than suitable to satisfy both the tweakers and the die-hard enthusiasts. read more

Patriot Memory Stellar Boost XT 64GB USB 3.0 OTG Drive Review

Storage/Other by stefan @ 2014-11-11 read/post comments()

The new Stellar Boost XT drive from Patriot Memory has quite a small footprint and also features a durable rubberized chassis. The read performance of the drive is very good, nearing 150MB/s in our tests, while the writes are in the 35MB/s area, quite close to the best performing USB 2.0 drives. These speeds are more than enough for maxing out the transfers when connected to our favorite smartphone/tablet which supports OTG for doing backups, watching Full HD content and many other activities. read more

Haswell-E Part2: Intel i7-5820K & i7-5930K Tested

CPU by leeghoofd @ 2014-11-07 read/post comments()

Intel launched its new Haswell-E high end processors end of August. Sadly, at launch the MadShrimps team only had access to the flagship version, the octacore i7-5960X processor. The i7-5960X is Intel's first 8-core processor for the desktop market. Xeon variants for the server platform already existed in octa and more core versions; coinciding with this launch a brand new motherboard chipset was released, the X99, now supporting the high speed DDR4, becoming slowly available to the masses. Today we are looking at the two more affordable six-core versions, the i7-5820K and the slightly higher clocked i7-5930K. In addition we will be taking a deeper plunge into the performance of the new offered technology to unravel some of the mysteries.… read more

HIS R9 285 IceQ X2 OC 2GB GDDR5 Video Card Review

Videocards/VGA Reviews by stefan @ 2014-11-04 read/post comments()

As the R9 285 OC model from Gigabyte, the HIS R9 285 IceQ X2 2GB OC video card is based on the Tonga architecture and is using a new form of compression for frame buffer color data, which reduces the amount of memory bandwidth required for buffer operations. The product is overclocked from the factory but not as high as the Gigabyte R9 285 OC so the overall results were a bit lower in the synthetic benchmarks but also inside the games. However, we could overclock the card quite a bit with the supplied utility and have reached similar performance when the card was maxed-out. read more
