ASUSTOR AS1004T 4-bay NAS Review

Storage/NAS by stefan @ 2015-11-22 read/post comments()

AS1004T NAS takes part of the latest ASUSTOR server series meant for home use, which does sport a Marvell ARMADA-385 1GHz Dual-Core processor, is paired with just 512MB of RAM and can house up to four drives. The chassis has been completely redesigned and in order to access the drives, we will have to completely remove the cover; unlike the previous NASes we have tested from the same company, this unit lacks trays and only 3.5’’ drives are supported for installation. Because of the utilized ARMADA-385 SoC, the overall power consumption is very low, while the four bays are cooled by a single 120mm fan located in the back. We can connect more devices to the NAS, but be aware… read more

Cases & PSU/Cases by leeghoofd @ 2015-11-17 read/post comments()

In Win is one of those manufacturers which really dare to innovate within their growing lineup of computer cases. Last year they stole the show with their highly acclaimed S-Frame, an open air chassis made from a single sheet of aluminium. Of course these high tech cases come at a cost! This year at Computex they surprised friend and foe again with the H-frame case; compare it with a transformer case, that can open and close allowing to access the innards. It is quite expensive but nevertheless a stunning concept case that will be produced in limited numbers. Today however we are taking a look at one of their more affordable nevertheless breathtaking case solution, the IN WIN 805 Mid-tower… read more

THL 2015A Smartphone Review

Mobile/Smart Phones by stefan @ 2015-11-17 read/post comments()

The newly released THL 2015A smartphone is a lower-specced version of their previous 2015 model which now features a MTK MT6735 SoC at 1.3GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a HD screen and a battery of 2700mAh. The camera sensor on the back is a Sony IMX135 Exmor RS 13MP and while it can shoot good quality photos during day time, the night shots are quite disappointing because of the excessive LED flash bleeding inside the frame. read more

Corsair VOID Stereo Gaming Headset Review

Audio/Others by stefan @ 2015-11-14 read/post comments()

While the VOID Stereo is compatible with a wide selection of devices which can output analog audio signal, the quality of the sound is also often influenced by the source. We have connected the headset to our trusty Sound Blaster ZxR sound card and watched some movies, several YouTube clips but also some of the latest TV Shows like Gotham, Grimm, The Walking Dead and so on. The main conclusion is that with the right sound card settings and enhancements, the Stereo is going to sound pretty good but this is also thanks to the 50mm-large Neodymium drivers it incorporates that are also used on the more expensive models. Talking about the microphone, if the sound card from our setup… read more

Rantopad FF Gaming Mouse and MAX Aluminum Pad Review

Others/Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2015-11-12 read/post comments()

The FF Gaming Mouse from Rantopad is clearly not in the same league as the other high-end products we have tested in more recent reviews, but comes with good quality materials and is shape is quite comfortable to be used for many hours at a time. While most manufacturers nowadays like to leave the mouse performance customization via software, FF Mouse allows adjustment via two switches on its bottom, for Polling Rate and DPI. At the heart of the mouse we will find the proven Avago A3090 sensor, which can drive the DPI up to 3500. read more

QNAP TS-563 5-bay Affordable Quad-Core Business NAS Review

Storage/NAS by stefan @ 2015-11-09 read/post comments()

This is not the first AMD-based NAS we are testing on MadShrimps and it has been demonstrated to us once again that the platform has potential even when dealing with a lower clocked SoC and to be more exact the GX-420MC. This quad-core component is lacking a GPU (hence we do not have a HDMI interface on the back of the unit), is equipped with a total of 2MB of shared L2 cache, comes with a power rating of 17.5W and a frequency of 2GHz per core. While the unit is initially equipped with only 2GB of DDR3L RAM, we always have the option to open it up and install up to 16GB (2x8GB). read more
