In the search for the fastest gaming PC in the world or just for bragging right’s to the fastest benchmarks around we go looking for the newest most fastest hardware, but what we want Isn’t always available at the time we want it thus comes Overclocking and when we reach the limits of that stage of PC evolution cooling upgrades and system tweaking. Still at the end of the day when all these fail to give the results one looks for we jump into the extreme phase hardware modding.

This extreme phase is know as voltage modding and it is simply defined as adding voltage to a given circuit to extend the limits of the current hardware on the market far beyond that of what Is currently available and in some situations can put you up to 6 months to a year above all the other retail consumers of the world which is a very good thing..

To begin we start with the modification that controls the core voltage. The chip that controls voltage to the GPU is the SC1172CSW. Now instead of soldering directly to the voltage regulator IC I use an alternative point that is IMO a lot easier to work with.

Here we see I used a mounting area where I can lay the VR(variable resistor) down in a spot where I can use a ground point on the card for the front leg of the VR so only one actual wire has to be used thus making things a lot more simple and at the same time making less overall clutter and safer for handing and so on..
So now we have our spots to hook up the voltage mod we solder everything up making first to set the 10k variable resistor to maximum resistance or 10,000 ohms to start. this should be done with a multi-meter if you have not had experience before with a variable resistor and no how to set it without a meter, but you should have a meter handy as to set the core voltage later you must have a meter on hand.

Here we see the resistor hooked up to the card and it shows you what spot you will need to use your multi-meter to read the voltage from the card once the system is turned on. As an alternate you can solder a wire to this spot so you can measure the voltage without probing at the card with power on if you don’t have steady hands.
