  Scythe Katana 2
Provided by: Scythe

The return of the venerable Katana heatsink, the first version left us quite impressed, despite its small size it kept on par with the performance of much larger units; The Katana 2 adds a larger fan (100mm vs 92mm), an extra heatpipe and larger surface area. The installation method has also been revamped and is much more plug and play now too.

  • Platform compatibility: Intel Socket 478&775/AMD AM2/939
  • Fan Support: practically any 25mm thick fan (80>140mm)
  • Fan Included: 100x100x25mm, 1500rpm, 42.69cfm/22dBA
  • Dimensions: 105x82x149 mm
  • Weight (with fan): 535gr

Inside the small box you find the new compact Katana 2 unit, 3 custom mounting brackets, a manual and thermal goop.

The 100m included is the same as the Kama Cross. The mounting method is more in line with that the Scythe Mine, where the fan is squeezed tight between 2 metal brackets, you can swap the default 100mm out with any fan-size you like, although 92~120mm is the most practical size for the unit.

Where the Katana 1 titled heavily to one side the Katana 2 now stands up straight, the fins however are titled a few degrees, by doing this more surface area can be created in the same amount of space:

The fins are all aluminum on the Katana 2, we did see an all-copper version at Cebit, but with the increased cost for copper, Scythe is not too sure if they will release onto the market.

The base of the Katana 2 is close to perfection; only very small traces of lapping can be seen:
