Fractal Design Core 500 SFF Chassis Review

Cases & PSU/Cases by leeghoofd @ 2016-02-09 read/post comments()

Fractal is expanding their lineup continuously: small form chassis are becoming more and more popular as even the latest high end hardware is also available in reduced size. Thus small form doesn't mean the end-user is limited to just entry or mainstream components. With the right hardware choices one has the ability to build a true gaming powerhouse. The Core 500 is one of them chassis models that looks very intriguing on paper, allowing high end cooling, normal sized ATX PSUs, a discrete GPU and last but not least plenty of storage options including Optical Disk Drive support. All this in a 60 euro bundle, now that sounds too good to be true! Time to find out if there is… read more

QNAP TS-453A 4-bay QTS-Ubuntu Combo NAS Review

Storage/NAS by stefan @ 2016-02-05 read/post comments()

TS-453A is one of the newest NASes from QNAP and has quite a bit of functions like a complex QTS web interface, dual HDMI for output on HDTVs or 4K displays, HD Station HDMI GUI with more applications than before, Linux Station which allows us to run Ubuntu and control it with keyboard/mouse and without the need of a PC, plenty of media center applications (Plex, KODI and so on), 4x Gigabit LAN interfaces with Port Trunking support, separate hardware interfaces for Karaoke and more. The server is built inside a proven solid chassis which we have seen with other models and has at its heard the Celeron N3150 quad-core 1.6GHz processor which is accompanied by dual-channel 4GB DDR3 memory. read more

Shuttle XPC Slim XS35V5 Pro Barebone Review

Others/All-in-one PC by stefan @ 2016-02-02 read/post comments()

Shuttle XPC Slim XS35V5 Pro was designed to be fanless, quiet, reliable for a 24/7 operation and it is not focused on high performance. The N3050 Intel Celeron processor also features Intels’ 8th Gen HD Graphics which supports Full HD video encoding/decoding so the manufacturer is recommending this machine for Office work, media playback (Full HD content) but we would also like to add that the product handles well browsing too if we do not have a big number of tabs open and we do also have at least 4GB of DDR3L SODIMM memory installed inside the supplied slot. Besides the location where we can install the HDD/SSD, we also have the option to mount an internal USB Flash Drive… read more

Tronsmart Vega S95 Telos Android 4K Media Player Review

Others/All-in-one PC by stefan @ 2016-01-27 read/post comments()

The Tronsmart Vega S95 Telos is performing as promised by the manufacturer, being able to playback 4K content without any issues at all and at the same time it is able to output at this resolution with a frequency of 60Hz. We do get plenty of possibilities to connect extra storage to it via the included USB 2.0 ports, the SATA Data/Power interface but also via LAN, Wi-Fi or even the SD Card reader. The 3D performance of the product is also quite decent so considering that we do actually have a fully-functional Android 5.1.1 mini-PC on our hands, we can install plenty of other applications on it via Play Store. read more

Mad Catz S.T.R.I.K.E. M Wireless Keyboard Review

Others/Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2016-01-24 read/post comments()

S.T.R.I.K.E. M is a cool looking mobile keyboard which features smaller than usual keys, meaning that some time is needed to get accustomed with. While the product connects to the devices via Bluetooth technology, we do have one device cycle button for jumping from one device to another in just a couple of seconds, without the need of additional configurations of software. Multimedia keys are fitted on the top left side and quite a bit of functions like ESC and F-keys are accessible while working with the Fn key. For even better flexibility, we can see one OFN (Optical Finger Navigation) button on the top right side, which is accompanied by the mouse left/right buttons; an extra set of mouse… read more

HP Pavilion Gaming Notebook 15-ak020NB Review

Mobile/Laptops & Netbooks by leeghoofd @ 2016-01-20 read/post comments()

HP notebooks are known to many users as daily or as business products, this as they didn't have any or that many notebooks specifically targeted at the gamer community. From the press release in October we at MadShrimps were intrigued by the direction HP took, so it was worthwhile to test the new gaming notebook and see what it is made off. Best of all HP told us that this new announced product would be very competitive in price too; now I'm an avid gamer too and have never been so found of notebooks being able to replace a high end desktop. Maybe the HP Pavilion Gaming notebook could make me change my mind? read more
