Intel Dothan Overclocking, going for 100% OC on Dry Ice
Intel Dothan Overclocking, going for 100% OC on Dry Ice
Today we go for a 100% overclock with a 1.6Ghz Pentium M Dothan CPU, using Dry Ice to cool the CPU this might be possible. To make things more interesting we also push an ATI X800 to its limit running it at -52?C.

Since I published the “How to Dry Ice cool your PC” I’ve been hard at work improving the design of the container and isolation techniques.

Not so long ago one of my fellow Madshrimps published an A64 overclocking article by using Dry Ice here. Today I tackle a Dothan (Pentium M) system in search for a 100% overclock!

The Dothan CPU is meant for the laptops out there but a smart device made by Asus allows you to plug this CPU into a full sized ATX desktop board. The CT-479 adapter might well be the overclocker’s dream come true.

Although the device is only compatible with Asus boards, that’s not necessary a bad thing as Asus has some very high performance (and overclocker friendly) boards.

The Asus P4C800-E Deluxe is touted as one of the best P4 S478 overclocking boards, able to surpass 300Mhz FSB with memory running in sync. So I decided to pair this board with a Dothan CPU, the cheapest one in the list, which comes clocked at 1.6Ghz

The Pentium M 730 is quite exceptional in its overclocking potential, reaching 2.8Ghz with STOCK air cooling and 1.55v vcore.

This 75%! Overclock is good for an impressive SuperPi calculation of 25.5 seconds, which rivals and beats an Athlon FX running at 3.2ghz, no air cooled Athlon comes even close to the score of the Dothan at 2.8Ghz.

Let’s see what we get out of this Pentium M when we put in on Dry Ice ->
